Following torrential downpours Tuesday, local farmers are hoping more rain comes for their parched crops.
"We've been really dry and we're really looking forward to a decent rain," says Josh Mailloux, a cash crop farmer in Amherstburg. "The ground was so dry there were cracks you could stick your arm down."
He says the rain that came down Tuesday morning was just what the doctor ordered for his thirsty crops.
"There's a few guys walking checking some corn I have and the mud was hardly sticking on their boots," says Mailloux, adding the dry summer months have taken their toll on his corn as some of his crops expired because of the lack of water.
Mailloux says the rain was really needed on his farm.
"Absolutely, in terms of the soy beans they're at a critical time and they're still flowering to create more pods," says Mailloux.
Environment Canada had issued a special weather statement warning of the potential for heavy rain Tuesday night, but the evening cleared up with only a slight chance of rain.
The possibility of rain remains in the forecast through Thursday.
