Chatham-Kent firefighters are daring residents young and old to wear pink this month.
The Chatham-Kent Professional Firefighters Association and CK Fire and Emergency Service are launching Brave Enough To Wear Pink this week, raising money to support breast cancer research and awareness. Co-Lead and Firefighter Sidney Vilaranda says they've designed pink shirts that they'll sell at CK fire station 1, as well as The Loft in downtown Chatham. Officials are currently working on selling the shirts out of station 3 as well.
He adds they'll split proceeds from the funds raised in October to the Breast Cancer Society of Canada, and the Firefighter Cancer Support Network.
"We chose the Breast Cancer Society of Canada because their focus is on research," says Vilaranda. "It was an organization that started in Sarnia and is now a national organization, so it's close to home for us."
Firefighters will also be helping to bag and carry groceries at Chatham's Real Canadian Superstore and Sobey's. That will start Thanksgiving weekend and continue every Saturday in October.
