An application is in the works to potentially bring repairs to Dufferin Ave. in Wallaceburg.
Chatham-Kent’s Director of Engineering Adam Sullo says now that they have the green light from council, they can start an application for the Ministry of Transportation's Connecting Links Program.
The municipality is currently using that program to fund repairs on McNaughton Ave. and Murray St. in Wallaceburg.
"We received $3-million from the province this year to do McNaughton and Murray St., which we put out to tender this year," says Sullo. "That work will be going on next year."
Since it's a yearly program, Sullo says they've decided to go through with a second round of applications to address the needs of Dufferin Ave. Costs to repair Dufferin Ave. are estimated at around $3-million.
Because the road is in such poor condition, municipal officials aren't sure how much needs to be done.
"Overall, the street needs some rehabilitation," says Sullo. "That's what we're just evaluating now - to what depth do we need to rehabilitate."
Sullo says through their application, they will be looking into whether the road needs to be ripped apart completely or just have the asphalt replaced. He says they'll keep asking for the funding until they get it.
"The Connecting Links application is supposed to continue for a number of years from now, so even if we aren't successful in receiving funding this year, it's a project we'll be applying for next year," says Sullo.
The application is due within the next couple of weeks. Sullo says if they are given funding the project will begin sometime in 2017.
