A car crash victim and one of her heroes were reunited briefly this week, after not seeing each other for nine months.
Earlier this month, the Chatham-Kent Police Service honoured two people who helped save a woman's life after a car pinned her against a building in Blenheim. One of those heroes, James Gould, expressed interest in seeing the victim again.
After hearing this, the victim's husband reached out to Gould, and the two finally saw each other again on Tuesday. Gould tells BlackburnNews.com he met the Woodstock couple at a Tim Hortons in Chatham.
"I was looking for someone in a wheelchair," says Gould. "But then I turned to my left and saw her sitting there with crutches. I thought 'whoa, she's not just headstrong, she's body-strong' -- to take a blow like that and be able to start walking with crutches."
Gould was surprised to learn that the victim had thought he was an emergency responder.
"She thought I was a paramedic, until she [read the story] and found out I was a pedestrian. Her husband and I talked, and he kept saying 'thank you, thank you, you're a hero,'" says Gould.
The victim also made special mention of her daughters' graduation and wedding, both of which she wouldn't have been able to experience, if Gould hadn't acted so quickly after the crash.
Gould says the two already have plans for another meeting -- the victim's family wants to treat him to dinner.
