The OPP are reminding the public to look out for deer, after one of their cruisers hit one on the highway.
"He saw the deer coming, and what he did was continue holding onto the steering wheel and steer straight ahead," says Constable Jay Denorer.
He says driving straight is the best option because veering to try and avoid the animal can lead to much more dangerous consequences.
"You can go into the oncoming lane, you can strike another vehicle. If there's a car beside you can increase the chances of a collision, or actually roll your vehicle over to try and avoid hitting the deer," says Denorer.
According to police, November seems to be when deer travel near area highways the most, looking for food. Denorer says they're most often seen an hour before sunset and an hour after sunrise.
