Working Off The Holiday Guilt

With each new year comes new year's resolutions, and in some cases those resolutions involve getting into shape.

Floyd Porter, who owns KAYO Boxing club in Chatham, is quite familiar with goals -- both setting them and achieving them.

He says the club is anticipating an increase in members after the holiday season, particularly through their boxercise class.

"We just started this class this year and it's grown probably times three," says Porter. "We're up to about 13-14 women now."

Porter says people join for various reasons -- sometimes it's just about having fun.

"It's probably one of my favourite classes to teach because of their enthusiasm, and their participation, attitude, and personality," he says.

Boxercise classes for women and men are separate. However, it's not exclusive to just adults.

"Most of the youth or young competitors/non-competitors that show up do have issues of confidence or self esteem," says Proter. "We see them develop through boxing the confidence needed to tackle some of these things at school and their environment."

Boxcersize classes run Tuesday's and Thursday's, 5:30pm-6:30pm for women and 6:30pm-7:30pm for men.
