The Chatham-Kent Sexual Assault Crisis Centre is bringing a blast from the past up to the present to celebrate International Women's Day.
Executive Director Michelle Schryer says this year, they're trying something extra special.
"We will have quite a nice program, I think," says Schryer. "That includes our guest speaker, who will be Viola Desmond as portrayed by Deirdre McCorkindale from the Chatham-Kent Black Historical Society."
Viola Desmond was recently chosen to be the first Canadian woman featured on the face of a Canadian bank note. She'll appear on the $10 bill starting in 2018.
Some of the other guests, also portrayed by actors, include women's rights advocate Clara Zetkin and civil rights activist Harriet Tubman.
"We've done a couple of lunchtime events in the past -- not necessarily tea," says Schryer. "But this time since we're having Viola Desmond, Clara Zetkin, and Harriet Tubman it seemed more appropriate that this year we would have an afternoon tea."
The event starts at 11:30am Wednesday, March 8 at Studio One -- which is located inside the Chatham Cultural Centre.
RSVP is required because seating is limited.
The deadline to sign up was Friday, March 3, 2017 -- but if you're still interested in going, you should call 519-354-8908 for more information.
