Competitions for the 2017 season have wrapped up for the CK Cyber Pack, but they're not done working just yet.
The robotics team is looking to entice students into joining the Cyber Pack.
Chris St.Amand, lead electrical and mechanical student, says right now the team mostly consists of Grade 11 students, so it would be nice to have the younger students join.
"We invite everyone Grades 9-12 and even some students [who are a bit younger] that would like to come in earlier to just watch and learn a little bit," says St.Amand.
He adds there are several advantages to being part of the Cyber Pack, some of which involve gaining technical skills, which would look good on a resume. Other advantages have to do with one's high school experience.
"It really opens you up," says St.Amand. "Personally I was a really shy kid in Grade 8 and 9 and I wouldn't really talk to anyone ... Now I'm here [in Grade 12] talking to everyone and anyone."
St.Amand says he will be staying back next year, helping other students working with the mechanical aspect of the team's project. However, those who enjoy organizing events are also asked to consider joining the robotics team.
"Even if [students] know nothing about fundraising or mechanical [engineering] or electrical [work], we can help teach them -- if they're interested," he says.
The Cyber Pack will be hosting an open house and some fundraisers to gain interest and support for the team.
There will be an open house at St. Clair College Thames Campus on May 17, at 6:30pm.
The team is also hosting a Shriners breakfast fundraiser on June 3. Attendees can get a complete breakfast at the Chatham Masonic Temple, from 8am-10:30am.
Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children. All proceeds will go towards the CK Cyber Pack.
