LKDSB EQAO Results Slightly Below Provincial Average

Students at the Lambton-Kent District School Board are holding their own when it comes to reading, writing, and math.

The 2016-2017 Education Quality and Accountability Office results for Grades 3 and 6 in reading, writing, and math are slightly below the provincial average while Grade 9 applied math results are slightly higher than the provincial average.

However, the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test and Grade 9 academic math results are below the provincial average.

The latest results have Grade 3 math seven percentage points below the provincial average while Grade 6 math is eleven points below and Grade 9 applied math is one percentage point above the average.

Literacy is six percentage points below the provincial average.

The school board's EQAO results have been slightly below the provincial average over the past five years.

The board says "EQAO assessments are a reflection of the progressive learning throughout the elementary and secondary levels and they are one of several tools used by teachers and administrators to assess students.

The school board also says it continues to focus on differentiation and supporting student success and well being.

“We appreciate the ongoing commitment of our educators and administrators, not just in the grades assessed by EQAO, but at all levels, to improve academic outcomes for students in the areas of math and literacy,” says Education Director Jim Costello.  “We are proud of the progress of our students and we continue to look for ways to improve our assessment preparation and the integration of technology to enhance learning opportunities.”
