Whether you are headed out with the kids trick-or-treating or handing out candy at the door, you are likely going to see Donald Trump a lot tonight.
At least one Halloween store in Windsor says costumes depicting the U.S. president are trendy this year.
"Anywhere from Donald Trump masks to the Donald Trump comb-over wig. Lately, it's been the Donald Trump piggy-back costume that's been a big hit with the university-aged kids going out on pub crawls," says Peter Kyte, the dealer, and operator of two Halloween Alley stores in Windsor. "You slip into it and the way that it's manufactured it looks like Donald Trump is carrying you around on his shoulders."
Star Wars characters remain very popular, says Kyte who adds a lot of kids are drawing inspiration from video games this year too.
"I couldn't believe how popular Minecraft is with kids," Kyte says. "Halo was around when I was a kid, and it's still popular. The other popular one is P.J. Masks. Five Nights at Freddies, too. Huge."
What you will not see much of this year are costumes depicting North Americans.
"We don't carry nearly the Native American costumes that we have in years gone by," says Kyte. "Industry-wide it seems to have struck a chord."
There has been a lot of discussions this year about being more culturally sensitive. Last week, at the University of Windsor, members of the Native Students Alliance asked students to be more considerate of those from different ethnic backgrounds.
