A local business is making sure more families are able to keep certain Christmas traditions alive in their homes.
Leon's is donating the remaining Christmas trees from Scouts in Chatham to families who can't afford one. According to a media release, Leon's and owner Ken Edwards have supported Scouts for many years by buying a large amount of remaining trees and donating them to the community.
"We’re always happy to be a part of this fundraiser. It is a win-win for us," said Edwards in a media release. "We can support youth in the community and help families that need assistance [to] have a happy Christmas."
The Scouts' Christmas tree fundraiser is seen as one of the most important ones, as it helps secure future activities for youth in the community.
Andrea Winer, Section Scouter for Chatham #19, says having Leon's buy the remaining trees relieves a lot of pressure for the Scouts.
"We're really happy that Leon's helps youth," she says. "The youth use the money for all kinds of activities in the community and we draw youth from across Chatham-Kent for our group."
About ten Christmas trees are up for grabs. Winter says people can go to pick one up at the Scouts' lot on St. Clair St. in Chatham.
