The Canadian Institute for Health Information's latest survey says wait time for critical medical procedures have not changed much for residents within the Erie St. Clair Local Health Integration Network.
It says within the Erie St. Clair LHIN, which covers hospitals and health agencies in an area stretching from Windsor to Sarnia, patients could expect to get a hip replacement last year within the recommended period 87% of the time.
That's down only slightly from 2015 when 88% of hip replacement patients had surgery within 26 weeks.
As for knee replacement, 78% of patients were treated within 26 weeks, up just slightly from 2015.
No local numbers are available for the three other key medical procedures targeted by the Institute, cataract surgery, hip fracture repair and cancer radiation treatment.
Across the country, 73% of high-risk patients received cataract surgery within 112 days. In 2012, it was 83%, but there is some discrepancy across Canada about what defines high risk, and the Institute suggests an aging population could also account for the drop.
Results in Ontario for cataract surgery also fell to 70% last year, from 86% five years ago.
For patients requiring hip fracture repair, 80% had surgery within 48 hours, and 98% received cancer radiation therapy within 28 days.
