Localized flooding is possible throughout the Lower Thames River watershed with the snow cover melting and rainy weather on the way.
But officials with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) say at this point, ice jams are not expected to form on the river.
A release from the LTVCA says the ice on the river "has reached a thickness that has historically allowed for ice jams," but adds "the flow on the river is not expected to be high enough."
An increase in the flow downstream and slippery banks along local waterways will still create some safety concerns, though.
As the rain comes down Thursday and the temperature warms up, the snow and ice that are melting are expected to cause some localized flooding where snow and ice has blocked the flow of water in the region's smaller watercourses. Residents are also being reminded to clean off their catch basins, which may be blocked with snow and ice.
You should take extra caution and avoid the river, ditches, and streams because the banks will be slippery, the ice could be unstable, and the cold water can be dangerous.
