The province's Special Investigations Unit says there are no grounds to lay criminal charges against Windsor police officers involved in the death of a Chatham woman.
Director Tony Loparco announced Friday that the officers involved in 26-year-old Marissa Ellis's death had been cleared.
Last September 4, Ellis was with a group of people outside the Windsor Public Library on Ouellette Ave. when she was arrested.
Police said she was behaving erratically, so they called the ambulance which took her to Windsor Regional Hospital.
She was released the next day but re-admitted on September 10. Ellis died nine days later when she was removed from life-support.
Two witness officers and two subject officers were assigned to look into the circumstances surrounding her death. They could not find any evidence to support criminal charges.
The SIU is an arm's length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been a death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
