CK Shows Support For Humboldt

Victims of a tragic crash in Saskatchewan will be remembered in Chatham-Kent.

Municipal officials say all municipal flags will be lowered at half-staff across Chatham-Kent on Monday. A book of condolences will also be available at municipal centres.

Fifteen people were killed in a crash Friday when a bus carrying the Humboldt Broncos Junior hockey team collided with a transport truck.

“You don’t have to have been a hockey player to identify with those who were on the bus,” Mayor Randy Hope said a news release issued Monday morning. "The pain of losing young people in such a tragic and cruel manner is something every parent or community member can relate to.”

Hope also says he left a message for the mayor of Humboldt over the weekend. At the end of the week, a book filled with pages of condolences from the municipality will be sent to Humboldt.

A moment of silence will take place at Monday night's council meeting.

Chatham-Kent residents are also encouraged to take part in an initiative on Thursday, in which people across Canada will wear sports jerseys to show support for Humboldt.
