Over 400 people came out to support the second annual Hike for Hospice event this past weekend.
The event, which was held on Sunday at Mud Creek Trail, raised over $60,000 towards supporting the ongoing operational needs of the Chatham-Kent Hospice. The fundraising walk coincided with the hospice’s two year anniversary.
The Chatham-Kent Hospice is a facility that provides care for residents facing the end of their lives and support for their loved ones. Since its opening in April of 2016, the organization has served over 425 families in the community.
The hike kicked off with opening remarks from Co-chairs Helen Robertson and Josette de Brouwer, Rachel Schwarz singing “O Canada,” and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 642 pipe band leading the walk. Many hikers also took the opportunity to tie a ribbon to a memory wall in honour of a loved one.
“Once again, I am amazed with the generosity of our community. Thank you Chatham-Kent! Your support allows Hospice to continue to offer end-of-life care to families when they need it the most," says Jodi Maroney, executive director. "A special thank you to the many volunteers and sponsors who made this event possible including our lead sponsors the Chatham Lions Club, MC Business Solutions & MicroAge.”
