Youths accused of stealing teen's purse

Two Chatham teens have been arrested after a girl's purse was stolen Thursday night.

Chatham-Kent police said officers made the arrests after they responded to a call at the park on the corner of King Street and Princess Street in Chatham.

Police said they were able to identify two suspects in connection with the case and took them into custody a short time later.

A 15-year-old Chatham youth and a 16-year-old Chatham youth are now charged with theft and possession of stolen property. The 16-year-old is also charged with resisting arrest.

Both of the teens were later released to their parents with conditions and a future court date.

Man arrested for being drunk in public

A drunk man walks into the police station in Chatham and speaks with an officer -- a short time later, he gets arrested.

That's reportedly what happened shortly after 7 p.m. Thursday in Chatham.

Police said an intoxicated man walked into police headquarters, spoke with an officer, then walked out and was immediately taken into custody outside of the building on Third Street because he was "unable to care for himself."

A 55-year-old Chatham man spent the night in police custody and was expected to be released when he sobered up.

Police said he turned himself in Thursday morning after a number of warrants were issued for his arrest including one for breaching probation and another for uttering a forged document.

Officers said after the man was arrested, he was taken to the courthouse pending a bail hearing.
