Finals all set at the Pinty's Grand Slam

Chatham-Kent's Grand Slam of Curling is set for a weekend climax.

The finals have been set for the men's and women's singles competition at the Pinty's Grand Slam Princess Auto Elite 10 championships, being contested at the St. Clair College Thames Campus Arena.

On the men's side, Reid Carruthers of Winnipeg and Brad Gushue of St. Johns, NL will compete for the championship on Sunday. Carruthers had the number-one seed, beating Toronto's John Epping in one of the men's semifinals. Gushue defeated Brad Jacobs of Sault Ste. Marie in the other men's semi. Earlier Saturday in the men's quartefinals, Epping beat Glenn Howard of Penetanguishe and Epping defeated Calgary's Kevin Koe.

For the women's championship, the matchup will be Olympic gold medalist Anna Hasselborg of Sweden against Swiss star Silvana Tirinzoni. Hasselborg defeated seven-time women's Pinty's Grand Slam champion Rachel Homan of Ottawa in one semifinal, while Tirinzoni beat Winnipeg's Jennifer Jones in the other. In the women's quarterfinals earlier Saturday, Tirinzoni was victorious over Edmonton's Laura Walker; and Homan defeated Casey Scheidegger of Lethbridge, Alta.

The women's final is set for Sunday at noon, while the men square off at 4 p.m. For complete information about the tournament, visit their official website.
