Stunt driver stopped on Lacroix Street

A 29-year-old man will be sitting in the passenger seat for the next week or so after allegedly going more than double the speed limit in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police said an officer stopped a vehicle just before 11 p.m. Thursday that was recorded going 105 kilometres per hour in a 50 km/h zone on Lacroix Street.

The driver's license has been suspended for seven days and the vehicle he was driving has been impounded for a week.

A 29-year-old Chatham man was charged with speeding and stunt driving as a result of the investigation.

Alert neighbour tips off police about break-in

Chatham-Kent police have arrested one teen and they're looking for another youth in connection with a break-in on Chippewa Drive in Chatham.

Officers said they made the arrest while they were responding to a report of some suspicious activity from a woman who said she saw two youths in her neighbour's shed Thursday morning.

Police said when they arrived, they found the door to the shed was open along with the gate to the backyard and a screen door to the house. Officers were able to arrest one suspect a short distance away, but they are still looking for a second youth.

A 15-year-old Chatham boy is charged with break and enter and breach of probation.

Man charged after alleged domestic assault

Chatham-Kent police have charged a 26-year-old Chatham man in connection with an investigation into multiple incidents of domestic violence.

Officers said a man is accused of assaulting his girlfriend while they were both arguing at a residence in Chatham Thursday night. The man is accused of taking off before police arrived at the scene and the woman was taken to the hospital for medical attention.

Police said through their investigation, they learned that there had been previous incidents of domestic violence as well.

A 26-year-old Chatham man later turned himself in at police headquarters and is now charged with three counts of assault. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Wanted man spotted hiding in the bushes

A 55-year-old man is in more trouble with the law now after officers followed up on a report of a man who was hiding in some bushes on Colborne Street in Chatham.

Police said someone tipped them off about a man who was looking through windows and hiding in some bushes at around 8 p.m. Thursday.

When officers caught up with a suspect in connection with the case, they learned that he was wanted for allegedly breaching his release conditions earlier in the week.

The man that police arrested was charged with two counts of failing to comply and was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.

He wasn't supposed to talk to her -- even via a friend

A 44-year-old Wallaceburg man is facing charges after allegedly using a friend to pass along a message to a woman he was ordered to stop contacting.

Chatham-Kent police said the man was released from court with several conditions back on July 27 -- one of them was that he wasn't supposed to communicate with a specific Wallaceburg woman directly or indirectly.

Investigators said two days after that, the man allegedly asked a friend to pass along a message to the woman.

When police found out about that, they issued a warrant for his arrest.

Officers said the man turned himself in Thursday morning.

Gaming system targeted during break-in

Chatham-Kent police are trying to track down some video game accessories and some leads after someone broke into a residence on Park Avenue West in Chatham overnight.

Police said sometime between 12 a.m. and 8 a.m., someone forced their way into the residence and stole a PS4 Pro gaming system, some controllers, some games, and a Go Pro Hero 6.

The damages are estimated at $800 while the stolen goods have a combined value of $1,250.
