Community job fair sees hundreds of applicants

There is no shortage of job seekers when it comes to filling positions in Chatham-Kent.

The second annual CK Works! Community Job Fair was held at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre in Chatham on Tuesday. According to a media release sent Thursday afternoon, 718 job seekers went to the event in hopes of filling one of the over 300 positions listed.

“There are a lot of great jobs available here in Chatham Kent and it’s exciting to see so many people out to learn more about them,” said Kristy Jacobs, project manager for Chatham-Kent's Workforce Planning Board. “It shows that our workforce is engaged and looking for opportunities, and it reminds us that the 'hidden job market' is one all job seekers really need to be accessing."

Over 40 employers met with applicants at the event. As stated in the release, some job seekers were new to the workforce, while others were looking for career changes.

"Sometimes, when you’re in the middle of your own job search it can feel as if there aren’t any jobs out there. Events like this, ones with a variety of positions and levels across so many sectors prove that there are," said Jacobs. "You just need to know where to find them.”
