A 9-year-old girl with "a heart of gold" will be delivering donations Tuesday afternoon to those less fortunate.
Tatum Pavliscak celebrated her birthday on November 9. Instead of asking for birthday presents this year, Tatum asked for items she could donate. Her mother, Melissa Pavliscak said Tatum's decision to give back within the community started in the summer.
"We were in London and we had seen some homeless people," said Pavliscak. "She started to ask questions, I gave her the answers."
Pavliscak said Tatum came up with the plan to collect donations from her birthday on her own. After telling friends and family about the idea, things took off from there.
"It's not every day that a nine-year-old doesn't want presents and [instead] wants to help people who need it the most," said Pavliscak. "We are very proud. She has a heart of gold and she wears her heart on her sleeve."
Tatum said the idea of helping others makes her feel good and is something she plans on doing again in the future.
"It's really sad for me when I see people who are homeless," she said.
Tatum and her mother will take the donated items to the men's shelter in Chatham, Hope Haven, Tuesday afternoon.
