Depending on how council members vote, future Chatham-Kent council meetings could look a little different as they move around the municipality.
Mayor-elect Darrin Canniff will bring forward a motion November 19 to have municipal staff look at the possibility of holding council meetings at different locations.
Council meetings currently take place at the Civic Centre in Chatham. Based on Canniff's motion, he would like to see the logistics of holding two meetings in other communities -- such as Ridgetown, Blenheim, Tilbury, Wheatley, Wallaceburg, Dresden, Thamesville, and Bothwell -- over a four year period.
Municipal staff are also asked to look at potential locations within each of the specified communities that can house council meetings, to look into if electronic voting is a possibility, the use of microphones, and the feasibility to film or stream meetings.
During Canniff's mayoral campaign, his platform did involve moving council meeting to rural areas of Chatham-Kent so that more people could become informed on municipal matters.
If council approves the motion to have a report done, it will be due in December 2018, after the new council is sworn in.
