Union Gas raises almost $600K for United Way

The United Way of Chatham-Kent will get over a half million dollars thanks to local donations.

Union Gas employees and retirees in the municipality raised $595,712 through the company’s “We Give Today, To Improve Tomorrow,” campaign. Union Gas President Steve Baker said it's an understatement to say he's proud to be an employee of the company.

"The devotion of all Union Gas employees during the 2018 campaign was inspiring as they helped to improve the lives of individuals and families in the community where we work and live,” Baker said. “Our culture of giving ensures United Way can continue to make critical investments that help people every single day in Chatham-Kent.”

In a media release, the company stated the campaign's theme captured the employees' spirit of giving. According to the release, employees held fundraising events throughout the year to raise money and Union Gas matched donations dollar for dollar.

Last year's campaign raised $600,026 locally and a total of $1,009,476 province-wide. Totals for this year haven't been calculated yet.
