CK Public Health is looking for creative people to come up with some creative designs.
It is currently accepting designs for bike racks that also double as works of art.
"You don't need to be an engineer, you don't need to be an artist, you just have to have an idea and be able to get it on to paper," said Caress Lee Carpenter, Community Outreach & Public Relations Officer for CK Public Health. "The criteria is just that is can be fabricated, that the municipality kind of owns the right to edit it down, or work with the designer to make it fit in the location."
The deadline for submissions is May 1, and the winners will be announced on June 3, which is World Bicycle Day.
"All entries that are chosen will receive $1,000 as an honorarium or a prize reward," said Carpenter. The municipality is actually going to be working with a local fabricator to get it designed and fabricated."
Carpenter added that they're looking for designs that reflect Chatham-Kent's culture and heritage.
"We're putting them up in up to six different locations," she said. So there's the opportunity for the designs to be installed at five of the Chatham-Kent Public Health branch locations. Chatham, Dresden, Merlin, Tilbury, and Ridgetown, as well as a large one in front of the Civic Centre downtown."
Carpenter says they've already gotten some designs submitted.
"Once they're submitted they go to a panel of individuals from the arts and culture community and the bicycling community," said Carpenter. "They will be chosen based on some criteria that they've outlined there."
