Pretrial date set for former CK cop

The court cases for one current and one former Chatham-Kent police officer are both one step closer to a trial.

Former officer Kenneth Miller is facing charges of one count of sexual assault and one count of breach of trust in connection with an alleged incident from November 2014, while he was still an active member of Chatham-Kent Police Service.

On Tuesday, Miller was given an in-court pretrial date set for May 16, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Chatham.

Another case that went before the court Tuesday morning was for Constable Andrew Jaconelli.

Jaconelli is facing one count of sexual assault related to an off-duty incident in August of 2018. He has also been charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of assault with a weapon in connection to an incident that occurred while he was off duty in November 2017. Jaconelli has been suspended with pay since December 14, 2018.

Jaconelli's lawyer and the Crown have agreed to hold one more in-court resolution meeting on April 16, 2019 at the Ontario Court of Justice before setting a pretrial date. The court heard that within the next month, they expect to be in the position to set a pretrial date.

Neither of the accused were present when their cases came up at the Chatham courthouse on Tuesday, but their counsel addressed the court on their behalf.
