Environment Canada has ended a rainfall warning for Chatham-Kent.
According to the weather agency, anywhere from 25 millimetres to 40 millimetres of rain is expected by Saturday evening.
The rain is then expected to turn to snow later in the evening. Up to four centimetres of snowfall accumulation is possible and Environment Canada is warning motorists to be careful of slippery roads while driving.
Chatham-Kent could also see some localized flooding following the heavy rainfall that is expected.
In a statement Friday night, the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority said ponding and flooding are possible in areas with poor drainage.
Wind gusts of 35-40 kilometres per hour will likely cause waves on Lake Erie to reach up to 1.3 metres in height.
Local ditches, creeks and streams will likely rise throughout the day on Saturday. The conservation authority said if higher rainfall amounts appear, there could be some flooding in the low lying areas adjacent to the river, such as the sidewalk in downtown Chatham, early next week.
Residents are urged to use caution and avoid the river, ditches, streams and shorelines, as the combination of slippery banks and fast moving water can be dangerous.
