A sex offender with ties to Windsor and Wallaceburg has been charged with sexually assaulting girls in Windsor and in British Columbia.
Windsor police said they started investigating the child abuse case on March 27, 2019.
"Investigators identified an adult male suspect who is believed to have sexually assaulted a female child," police said in a news release Thursday afternoon.
Investigators said the suspect knew the girl's family and friends, and had access to the alleged victim. Wesley Clarkson, 33, formerly of Wallaceburg, is accused of sexually abusing the girl in Windsor between February 1, 2019 and March 12, 2019.
Clarkson is charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, breach of probation, and breaching his prohibition order not to possess any weapons.
Police said Clarkson is currently in custody in New Westminster for similar allegations involving female victims there under the age of 10.
“Detectives from the NWPD Major Crime Unit believe there could be more victims who have yet to come forward,” stated Sergeant Jeff Scott of New Westminster police. “The victims of these alleged offences are all girls who were under the age of 10 years old at the time.”
Investigators believe there could be more Windsor area victims.
In December of 2017, Clarkson was sentenced in Chatham-Kent on four counts of sexual interference and one count of possession of child pornography.
