A 28-year-old man from Toronto is facing a couple of charges following a collision on Highway 401 between Essex County and Chatham-Kent.
Chatham-Kent OPP said a complaint was made Thursday afternoon around 2 p.m. after an eastbound vehicle was suspected of speeding along the highway. Officers set up a post along the road at the Essex and Chatham-Kent border to capture the vehicle's speed using radar equipment.
The vehicle's speed was captured twice, one of which pegged the vehicle at going over 195 kilometres an hour.
Provincial police "maintained observation on the vehicle" and notified additional police units. However, the driver lost control of the vehicle and rolled into a ditch. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
The 28-year-old has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and stunt driving. He has since been released from police custody and has a future court date set for May 31. As per the Highway Traffic Act, his driver's license has also been suspended.
