In hopes of making Chatham-Kent a safer place, a new name in security is partnering with one of the most recognizable names in crime prevention.
Chatham-based JM Security Canada has teamed up with Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers to bring awareness to the community as well as to provide tips to prevent future crime.
The 'JM Security Crime of the Week' kicked off recently on the Crime Stoppers website. It showcases recent crimes and scams that took place in the area as well as offering advice to the readers on how they can prevent similar situations from happening to them.
JM Security launched its business last year. According to co-founder Eric Janssen, besides running a successful company, supporting the local community was always one of their main objectives.
"Really the goal was to make a better and safer community," Jannsen said. "I grew up in Windsor, my business partner grew up in Chatham. With the crime rate increase, we just wanted to make sure, whatever we were doing, we were helping people feel comfortable in their own city."
Janssen said their business is acting as a financial sponsor for Crime Stoppers and the crime of the week initiative. On top of that, they also provide easy solutions that can help decrease the likelihood of crime and help get the information out to the public and local media. Janssen said when they heard Crime Stoppers needed some help with funding, it made perfect sense for JM Security to get involved in the opportunity.
"They are the local organization that is really focused on community empowerment and really focused on pointing out what people are doing wrong with a goal of collectively trying to bring awareness and ultimately trying to catch and stop stuff in the future," he explained. "We just found what their mission is and our mission is, was really aligned."
According to Janssen, although the partnership is brand new, he is already hearing positive feedback.
"I think just in terms of awareness, a lot of people are calling us saying they've heard the tips on the news, they heard our name associated with it and they're happy to see that Crime Stoppers is continuing to be a focal point of the community," he said.
