No funnel clouds reported after Sunday's tornado warning

Several trees were knocked down during Sunday night's storms in Chatham-Kent but no tornadoes were reported.

That's according to officials at Environment Canada, who also sent out a tornado warning Sunday night.

Dave Rodgers with Environment Canada said meteorologists received reports of strong wind, heavy rainfall and marble-sized hail, but no funnel clouds were spotted.

"We got some reports from a trained weather spotter in the area and he saw quite a few trees down and hydro poles down in the Kent Bridge area," said Rodgers. "We'll continue to investigate... and see if we want to send a team down there."

Some of trees that fell down during the storm hit power lines -- especially in the Kent Bridge area, where there are still some localized power outages.

The rainfall totals were also significant in the Ridgetown area. Rodgers said the Environment Canada monitoring station there measured 88.2 millimetres (3.5 inches) of rain from Saturday night to Sunday night.

He said the agency also have some trained volunteers in Chatham-Kent who are expected to submit additional rainfall totals Monday morning.

The heavy rain has also prompted officials with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority (LTVCA) to issue a flood watch for the area between Ridgetown and Blenheim, and the First Nation communities west of London.

LTVCA officials said people living in those areas may experience some localized flooding.
