Drunk driving charges laid after crash
Before Chatham-Kent police got the chance to stop an allegedly impaired driver in Ridgetown Sunday night, a tree got there first.
Police said they were called to the scene in a parking lot on Victoria Street after someone saw a driver hit a tree after driving "erratically".
Officers believed the man who was behind the wheel was driving under the influence of alcohol, so they arrested him and took him back to police headquarters for some breath tests. Police say those tests showed that the man's blood alcohol concentration was over twice the legal limit.
As a result, a 72-year-old Ridgetown man was charged with impaired driving and later released with conditions and a future court date.
