Strong wind gusts have prompted conservation officials in the area to issue a flood watch for areas along the Lake Erie shoreline and Erie Shore Drive.
Officials with the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority issued the watch on Tuesday evening.
As stated in a media release, strong winds are anticipated on Lake Erie on Wednesday, which may create waves up to 1.5 metres in height. Environment Canada's forecast is calling for wind speeds to gust up to 60 kilometres per hour by Wednesday morning.
"Strong winds will be driving waves onto the Lake Erie shoreline in Chatham-Kent and Elgin County throughout the day [Wednesday]," as stated in the release. "There is a risk that wave action could damage shoreline protection works and cause erosion, all along the Lake Erie shoreline, including along the high bluff areas."
Conservation officials said residents living along Erie Shore Drive should be prepared for potential flooding. According to the LTVCA, wind gusts which resulted in major flooding last month were not as strong as the wind gusts that are anticipated by Wednesday.
The flood watch will remain in effect until Thursday.
