Liberal candidate's signs destroyed in Leamington

The Liberal candidate for Chatham-Kent-Leamington says she is demoralized after a number of her election signs were vandalized in Leamington.

Around 8-10 of Katie Omstead's signs were cut on Hwy.77 between Leamigton and Comber sometime over the weekend.

"It's just disappointing because it's a waste of money, it's a waste of volunteer time, and it's demoralizing," said Omstead. "I think the message is that they don't want to hear my voice, that they don't want me to succeed as a candidate in this riding."

A report to police has been made and anyone with information is asked to call OPP.

Despite the destruction, Omstead says her team is staying positive.

"It just further motivates the team to work harder, to get out there and replace the signs and it proves that this negative message won't work," said Omstead. "I've always told my volunteers that we will take the high road in all situations and so it just further galvanizes us to knock on more doors to make sure people can ask their questions and have their voices heard."

Omstead said she has also had a number of small signs go missing throughout the campaign.
