The leader of the People's Party of Canada (PPC) has made two stops in Chatham-Kent.
Maxime Bernier spoke to about 40 people at the WISH Centre in Chatham on Tuesday morning. Bernier was asked about doing more for veterans, about revamping the law, and what is being done to create youth jobs. He agreed more should be done on all of those fronts.
Most people in the crowd told Blackburn News they are drawn to the PPC leader because they believe he has integrity and, according to one supporter, he is a "straight shooter."
Edward Shea of Chatham said he is a party member because Bernier's platform speaks to him.
"Just about all of his platform resonates with me. Everybody else is trying to buy our votes and he's trying to come up with policies that actually make sense," said Shea.
Mike Reynaert of Dealtown said he is a Conservative but likes the PPC platform and believes Bernier talks the talk and walks the walk.
"I think he's a straight shooter. He doesn't sugarcoat anything. If he hasn't got a real answer for you, he tells you he hasn't got a real answer but he's got a lot of solutions I think," said Reynaert.
Ken from Chatham, who didn't want to give his last name, said Bernier is refreshing and seems transparent.
"When he makes a promise he keeps his promise and it's not broken promises where we're promised one thing today and nothing happens tomorrow," Ken said.
The PPC candidate for Chatham-Kent-Leamington, John Balagtas, and Lambton-Kent-Middlesex PPC candidate Bria Lee Atkins also attended the forum.
Bernier visited the Wallaceburg Legion later in the morning.
