Police recover two sawed-off shotguns during raid

A 30-year-old man is charged with multiple firearm-related offences after police found a pair of sawed-off shotguns while executing a search warrant at a Thamesville residence.

Police said members of the Community Patrol division along with the Critical Incident Response Team found a Browning 12-gauge "light twelve" shotgun and a Cooey shotgun with a taped handle during a systematic search of the residence Wednesday night. Police said both of the shotguns had their barrels sawed off, which makes them prohibited firearms.

Officers said both of the guns were hidden in the residence and neither of them was properly stored.

Police also recovered six 12-gauge shotgun shells, one 22-250 calibre rifle round, and some stolen licence plates during their search.

The homeowner -- a 30-year-old Thamesville man -- was arrested and charged with numerous firearm-related offences, possession of property obtained by crime, and failing to comply with his probation order. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
