Public input sought for proposed Wallaceburg hub

Residents are invited to give their feedback about a possible community centre in Wallaceburg.

A public meeting is planned on Wednesday to discuss the concept.

Councillor Aaron Hall is behind the idea. During a November 2019 council meeting, Hall brought forward a motion asking administrative staff to look at what options are available for building a new community hub in Wallaceburg. Hall previously said the purpose of the facility would be to accommodate a variety of different community groups at a centralized location.

However, Councillor Doug Sulman entered a successful motion to refer the motion back to staff to allow time for more public consultation.

Hall will be joined by fellow councillor Carmen McGregor as well as municipal staff during Wednesday's meeting. He said the goal is to engage with community members about the idea.

"Councillor McGregor, Mayor Darrin Canniff and I have already met with several groups and people so far and we're all looking forward to keeping the momentum moving forward and making the picture look more clear," Hall said on social media.

Hall added that the plan is still in the very early brainstorming stages.

"This will be an opportunity to have [residents'] ideas and thoughts documented & included in the process," he said.

The meeting takes place on March 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Wallaceburg Municipal Centre.
