City of Windsor reduces services in light of COVID-19

The City of Windsor is reducing some services and shuttering others because of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are closing City Hall to the public and setting up the vast majority of our employees to work from home," said Mayor Drew Dilkens in a release sent to the media. "Many of our services are already available online."

Emergency services, including the Windsor Police Service and Windsor Fire and Rescue Services, will remain operational.

If you need a marriage license or want a civil ceremony, you will have to wait. That service has been suspended.

The Solid Waste Drop-off will be closed to the public, although commercial customers will still be allowed in.

Municipal licensing is discontinued temporarily because public gathering places ar eclosed.

Employment and Training Services will shut down too.

At the end of the service day Thursday, the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel Bus will suspend operations.

Planning applications will continue, although municipal staff will process them from home.

Children's Services Administrative Supports and Housing Administrative Supports will operate online and by phone only.

Public parks and playground maintenance will continue but on a reduced schedule.

Curb-side waste and recycling pickup will continue.

All changes are posted on the city's website and will last until April 5.

In addition to the recent shut down of recreational facilities, City Hall, the Parks and Recreation Main Office, and the Parking Enforcement Office will close at the end of the day Thursday.  Parking enforcement officers will still be issuing tickets, payment can be made online.

Service Ontario and Service Canada Offices will remain open at 400 City Hall Square East.
