Anxiety workbook recommended as pandemic coping tool

An online resource tool is available to help us deal with the mental health challenges presented by the lingering COVID-19 pandemic.

It's called the Coronavirus Anxiety Workbook.

Bluewater Health Integrated Vice-President, Mental Health and Addictions Programs, Paula Reaume-Zimmer recommends the free resource published by the Wellness Society.

She told Sue Storr on CHOK (103.9 FM, 1070 AM) it's an excellent opportunity during this National Mental Health Week.

"Print off the workbook or work from it digitally, because if you work from it digitally it allows you to get to many important links," said Reaume-Zimmer. "Mental wellness requires as much diligence as physical wellness, going to the gym. Sitting down at the table, working through this, it really helps you understand what your thought patterns are, and how you respond to those through your behaviour, and how you can make improvements."

She said changing thinking, behaviours and how you feel is really the backbone to what cognitive behaviour therapy is about.

Zimmer reminded residents they can also access virtual and telephone services through the Bluewater Health, Lambton Public Health and Canadian Mental Health Association websites.

She added that face-to-face visits are still available for those with no other means. -With files from Sue Storr
