Wellington County has announced it will reopen all landfills and waste facilities at the end of May.
The facilities, which have all been closed since March 19 because of COVID-19, will reopen on Tuesday, May 26. The facilities will all resume regular business hours, as well. Reuse Centres and textile bins will remain closed at all sites until further notice.
The county notes that they expect the facilities to be very busy, so they are stressing that residents remain patient when trying to get in. They also strongly encourage the use of masks and gloves when visiting the sites, and encourage residents to go during the week if possible, as Saturdays tend to be the busiest. Customers will need to use cash or debit, preferably the tap function as no cash transactions will be allowed and physical distancing measures will be maintained.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding as we re-open our waste facility operations,” said Warden Kelly Linton. “The health and safety of the public and our staff remains our top priority.”
“Residents are encouraged to continue to use the curbside service for regular household waste,” commented Gregg Davidson, Solid Waste Services (SWS) Committee Chair. “Trips to waste facilities should be for the disposal of items and materials that cannot be managed through curbside collection services.”
