There were no additional COVID-19 related deaths, but two more cases of the virus were reported in the London-area on Thursday.
The Middlesex London Health Unit confirmed the new cases, which bring the area's total since the outbreak began to 463. One of the new cases involves a resident in long-term care. No details about the other individual to test positive for the virus were released.
To date, 427 people in London have contracted the virus, while the remaining cases in the region involved 19 individuals in Strathroy Caradoc, seven in Middlesex Centre, four each in North Middlesex and Thames Centre, and one each in Lucan Biddulph and Southwest Middlesex.
The London Health Sciences Centre has 24 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 in its care, four of whom are in the intensive care unit.
A total of 46 people in the area have died from the virus and 316 have recovered.
Southwestern Public Health, the health unit for Elgin and Oxford counties, reported zero new cases and no additional deaths over the past 24 hours. Its total number of confirmed cases remains at 63, with four deaths. Fifty-three of the cases have been resolved.
Ontario health officials reported the number of new cases has dropped down to levels not seen since the end of March. There were 258 new cases confirmed on Thursday, bringing the total to 21,494. The is the lowest number of newly confirmed cases reported in a single day since March 29, when 211 new cases were announced.
The number of COVID-19 deaths now stands at 1,798, with 33 more people who previously tested positive dying since Wednesday.
According to the latest epidemiological summary, 12.7 per cent of all cases have resulted in hospitalization. Currently, there are 1,026 patients in hospital with the virus, 184 in intensive care.
The virus continues to take a devastating toll on long-term care homes in Ontario. There have been 254 outbreaks within the facilities, with 1,308 deaths among residents. Long-term care homes in London with confirmed outbreaks include Earls Court Village, Elmwood Place, Henley Place, Kensington Village, Meadow Park, and PeopleCare Oakcrossing London.
