Three new COVID-19 cases confirmed in London-area

For the second day in a row, there have been no new COVID-19 related deaths reported in the London region.

The Middlesex London Health Unit said Friday the number of deaths related to the virus stands at 46, with no new deaths over the last 24 hours. Three more people in the area tested positive for the virus. All three individuals are connected to retirement homes.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the London-area since the outbreak began is now at 466. Health officials noted 324 of the cases have since been resolved.

The London Health Sciences Centre has 23 patients with the disease in its care, three of whom are in intensive care. The first child to be admitted to Children's Hospital due to the virus has now been released.

In Elgin and Oxford counties, Southwestern Public Health has not reported a single new case since Tuesday. The total number of cases sits at 63, with four deaths. The total number of recoveries has risen to 55.

Provincially, health officials confirmed 341 new COVID-19 cases, while also reporting a 'glitch' in the system that omitted dozens of new cases on Thursday.

"We’ve learned of a small glitch with yesterday's #COVID19 reporting," Health Minister Christine Elliott said in a tweet. "Because of a one-time data upload issue, [Thursday] missed 87 cases. While they’re captured in [Friday's] update, the real day-over-day numbers are 345 new cases on May 14 and 341 Friday."

Despite the data error, Elliott reassured Ontarians new daily cases in the province continue to trend downward, with expanded testing guidelines in place to monitor "any shifts in community spread and identify and contain new cases."

Ontario has recorded 21,922 confirmed cases of the virus since the start of the outbreak. There have been 1,825 deaths, 27 of which were reported on Friday.

Nine new outbreaks have been reported in long-term care homes since the last daily epidemiologic summary, bringing the number of outbreaks to 263. There have been 1,320 deaths among residents at the nursing homes.

The total number of people hospitalized with the virus in the province is 986, with 179 in intensive care.

The number of recoveries has gone up to 16,641.
