Three new COVID-19 cases, no additional deaths in London

There were no additional COVID-19 related deaths in the London-area reported on Monday.

The Middlesex London Health Unit said the number of deaths in the region remains at 53, while the number of newly confirmed cases went up by three. There have now been 539 cases of the virus reported in London and Middlesex County since the start of the pandemic.

Of those cases, 11 are among patients under the care of medical professionals at the London Health Sciences Centre. Outbreaks of the virus remain at seven long-term care/retirement facilities in the city – Chelsey Park, Chelsey Park Retirement Community, Country Terrace, Henley Place Long-Term Care Residence, Kensington Village, Sisters of St. Joseph, and Waverley Mansion. An outbreak at Mount Hope Centre for Long-Term Care that was first reported on May 16, was resolved on Sunday.

The number of people to recover from the virus has increased to 382.

Southwestern Public Health, the health unit for Elgin and Oxford counties, had no new cases or deaths confirmed on Monday. The total number of confirmed cases stands at 74 after one new case was reported on Sunday. There has been a total of four COVID-19 related deaths in the two counties. The number of resolves cases remains at 60.

Provincial public health officials reported the highest jump in new cases in Ontario in a week, with 404 additional cases confirmed over the past 24 hours. This is the first time in a week the daily number of cases reported surpassed the 400 mark.

The total number of confirmed cases in Ontario since the start of the outbreak is now 28,263, while the death toll has reached 2,276. There were ten additional deaths recorded in Ontario on Monday.

Currently, 181 long-term care homes, 90 retirement facilities, and 47 hospitals across the province are battling outbreaks.

Health-care workers across the province account for 4,730 of the total number of cases of COVID-19.

Hospitalization among those with COVID-19 sits at 12.4 per cent with 781 people currently in hospital. Of those, 125 are listed in the intensive care unit, 89 with a ventilator helping them to breathe.

Public health officials have said 22,153 of the cases have been resolved.

A total of 14,379 people were tested for the virus in Ontario over the last 24 hours. That is down from 17,014 tests performed on Sunday.
