Tip about window smasher leads to arrest

Chatham-Kent police are giving credit to an alert citizen for an arrest they made in Wallaceburg early Wednesday morning.

Police said the tipster called them after seeing a man smash the window of a business on James Street at around 4 a.m., adding that officers were able to locate a suspect a short distance away and arrested him.

A 28-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with mischief in connection with the case.

The damage caused by the incident was estimated at $1,500.

Driver charged after three-vehicle crash

A 50-year-old man from Blenheim is charged with careless driving in connection with a three-vehicle collision on McNaughton Avenue West in Chatham.

Police said they were called to the scene near Baldoon Road Tuesday morning.

No one was injured and the damage was estimated at $5,000.

Intoxicated man walking on the road

A 30-year-old Wallaceburg man who was spotted walking in and out of traffic on McNaughton Avenue in Wallaceburg Tuesday morning spent some time sobering up in police custody.

Chatham-Kent police said they took the man into custody at around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday and after determining that he was intoxicated and unable to care for himself.

The accused was charged accordingly and held in custody until he sobered up.

Failing to comply by stopping by

A 52-year-old Wallaceburg man who had been ordered to stay away from a specific woman's home in Wallaceburg is in trouble with the law again after he was spotted there on Tuesday.

Chatham-Kent police said the man was released from custody back in April - and one of the conditions was that he needed to stay away from the woman's residence.

But officers said they found him there at around 11 a.m. Tuesday, so they arrested him and charged with failing to comply with his release conditions.

He was later released again pending a future court date.

Stolen power tools

Chatham-Kent police are appealing to the public for tips as they try to track down some tools that were stolen from a shed on Langstaff Line.

Investigators said two DeWalt cordless drills, a Milwaukee cordless drill, and a gas-powered Honda pump were all taken during the break-in, which took place sometime early Tuesday morning.

The stolen tools have an estimated combined value of $1,000.

Books and Badges series continues

Chatham-Kent police are continuing their book-reading series with Sgt. Doug Cowell reading ‘Brady Brady and the B Team’.

The police force is hoping the initiative will connect officers with local kids while also encouraging children to read more while they're social distancing at home.
