Childcare centres across Ontario have been given the green light to reopen on Friday, but the YMCA of Southwestern Ontario says it will take them a couple of weeks to prepare.
The facility will not be accepting kids this week as it works to implement COVID-19 safety measures.
YMCA Vice President of Children's Educational Services Jo-elle Rinker said they're waiting for provincial and municipal guidelines before they can move forward.
"The guidelines are supposed to include rules relating to what we require for screening for COVID, the sanitation requirements, distancing measures, and pick up and drop off protocols," she said. "In the centre, we did hear that there would be a maximum of 10 people in a room, but we don't know if there are any additional limitations for the size of the centre. There are still a number of details that we're waiting on."
The government has confirmed that emergency child care will come to an end on June 26, 2020.
For older children, summer day camps will also be able to reopen as part of the province's Stage 2 plan.
At this time, overnight camps are not permitted to operate in the summer of 2020.
