Hydro pole crash ends with impaired driving charge
A 45-year-old Blenheim man is facing an impaired driving charge after he crashed a vehicle into a hydro pole Sunday evening.
Police said they were called to the scene on Chatham Street South in Blenheim at around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, adding that the driver lost control of his vehicle before hitting the pole.
Officers believed the man had been driving under the influence of alcohol, so he was arrested and taken to police headquarters for breath tests.
As a result of the investigation, the man was charged with having a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit and was later released pending a future court date.

Facebook messages lead to arrest
A 22-year-old Chatham woman is in trouble with police after allegedly communicating with her ex-boyfriend via Facebook Messenger even though she had been ordered to stop communicating with him.
Police said they received that information on Sunday, so they arrested her and charged her with failing to comply.
She was later released with a future court date.

Local man caught out past his curfew
An early morning bike ride turned out to be a bad idea for a 28-year-old Chatham man who was supposed to stay inside from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. daily.
Police said the man was released from custody on June 8 with a daily curfew, but officers allegedly spotted him riding a bicycle at around 4:30 a.m. Monday.
Police said the man fled from officers, but they were able to find him a short time later in The Landings in Chatham.
The accused was charged with failing to comply and he was set to be held in custody pending a bail hearing.

No signal tips police off to suspended driver
A driver who failed to use a turn signal ended up signalling to police that something was wrong Sunday night.
Police said the officer who saw a vehicle turn onto Grand Avenue East in Chatham without signalling pulled the vehicle over, at which point, the driver allegedly fled into a nearby residence without identifying himself to the officer.
Police were eventually able to identify the man and learned that his driver's licence had been suspended for unpaid fines.
A 49-year-old Chatham man was arrested and charged with driving while under suspended, failing to identify himself, and failing to signal a turn.
The vehicle was also towed from the scene and the registered owner was notified.
