Grey County Council asks for vigilance in the fight against COVID-19

Grey County's warden has issued a letter on behalf of the council thanking all of the efforts from the community to reduce the impact of COVID-19.

Council said front-line healthcare workers were ready to respond and long-term care employees managed to contain outbreaks in several long-term care facilities without a single death.

However, Warden Paul McQueen COVID-19 is still lurking in the community, so everyone must continue to be vigilant and follow all medical advice and orders.

Council credited the efforts of the Grey Bruce Public Health team and all of the citizens that kept COVID-19 from spreading throughout the community.

A public letter from the council said the continuous success in the battle against the virus will require continued efforts like limited travel, social distancing, masks, and hand cleaning.

With many seasonal residents already in Grey County and many more to come in the next few weeks, council warned against an “us versus them" attitude between permanent and seasonal residents.

"All of our residents, both permanent and seasonal are part of our community," council said. "We are all in this together and the success we have had fighting COVID to date, and hope to continue with that success in the future, will require the continued efforts of all of us. As we and the other levels of government begin to turn our attention to reopening the province and our economy, we must all continue to practice what has worked for us so well until this point."

The letter suggested residents limit interactions with others outside their household to what is required, that visitors and seasonal residents consider bringing their supplies, and that people do not congregate in groups. Individuals should wash their hands frequently and avoid touching their faces.
