COVID-19 cases creep up in Midwestern Ontario Monday

Two active cases of COVID-19 were reported in Huron Perth Monday.

The Public Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, reported one new case in Stratford, and one case in North Perth.

"The two new cases are unrelated to each other, and unrelated to previous cases in Huron and Perth. And both had been out of county," she explained.

She says contact tracing continues in both cases, as the patients isolate at home. There are no outbreaks in long term care, schools or child care centres.

Dr. Klassen is concerned about the high number of COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario Monday.

Klassen said with 700 cases reported across the province, local residents need to be vigilant.

"This is not encouraging news, and we will have to see if there is any additional direction that comes out of it. What we can control, of course, are our actions here in Huron Perth. Please be selective about which social gatherings you may want to attend and continue to practice public health measures. Keep your social circle of ten intact," she added.

There are seven active cases in Wellington County.

The Grey Bruce Public Health Unit reported six active cases Monday including an outbreak at a long term care home in Thornbury.
