Tot Lot opens in Owen Sound

The newly constructed Harrison Park Tot Lot playground has re-opened to the public with a warning to users to practice COVID-19 safety orders.

The park offers a safe and inclusive outdoor recreation space for young children. And the upgrades provide accessibility enhancement in the areas of mobility, vision, hearing, mental well-being and sensory.

People using playgrounds and play structures should ensure physical distancing when possible, wash hands before and after use and consider visiting at off-peak times to avoid congestion.

The project budget was $100,000 in the city’s approved 2020 capital program.

The Harrison Park Tot Lot is a central and heavily used space for park-goers. The new playground provides for a more modern feel and includes climbers, slides and spinners that support physical activity, intellectual development, social interaction and emotional wellness.

"We are excited to have new accessible equipment installed at Harrison Park. I encourage parents and caregivers to take your children to play at this fun and safe barrier-free playground, " said Mayor Ian Boddy.

The new Tot-Lot play structure was reviewed by the City’s Accessibility Advisory Committee and is compliant with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.  The anticipated life expectancy for new playground equipment is 25 years.
