COVID-19 claims another life in Huron Perth

Huron Perth Public Health reported COVID-19 contributed to another fatality, a resident of Seaforth Manor Nursing Home. The pandemic has lead to 50 fatalities in the region.

Five new cases of the virus were confirmed by public health Monday, three in Stratford, one in Perth East and one in North Huron.

There are 21 active cases but no hospitalizations due to COVID. Outbreaks continue at Seaforth Manor Retirement Home, the Stratford Jail, and one unidentified workplace. The outbreak at Seaforth Manor Long Term Care has ended.

The Chief Medical Officer of Health for Huron Perth is asking people to continue to practice measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 despite a move to a less restrictive level of the provinces COVID-19 Response Framework.

Dr. Miriam Klassen says Huron Perth moved from the Orange Restrict level to the yellow protect zone today.

"Our numbers were much higher a few weeks ago. They have moved in the right direction. I'd like to see them stay there. So it's essential that every one continues to follow public health and workplace safety measures and advice," she said.

However, Dr. Klassen urges people to continue to stay home as much as possible, and avoid social gatherings with people outside of their household.
