New COVID-19 cases very low in Midwestern Ontario

Just three new COVID-19 infections were confirmed in Midwestern Ontario Tuesday.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit confirmed just one new case of COVID-19 Tuesday.  There are 12 active cases and one hospitalization.  11,577 doses of of vaccine were injected into residents in the region.  The Health unit expects to have the mass immunization hub open at the Davidson Centre in Kincardine on the Friday, March 12, to 80+, by appointment.  Another hub is located at the P&H Centre in Hanover. The Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound would be the third hockey hub vaccination site.  Activating three Hockey Hubs in Grey and Bruce, given sufficient supply of vaccine,  would meant it would take about 21 days to vaccinate 140,000 people or 75 percent of Grey Bruce's population.

Huron Perth Public Health added just one new confirmed case of COVID-19 Tuesday, in Stratford. There are 22 active cases. An outbreak continues at Stratford jail.

Wellington Dufferin Guelph Public Health also reported just one new case of the novel coronavirus in Wellington today. There are 20 active cases in Wellington. There are outbreaks at Royal Terrace in Palmerston and Wellington Terrace, Maple Ridge Unit in Fergus, with two staff members testing positive at both Long Term Care homes. There are also outbreaks at St. Joseph's Health Centre Acute Care Rosewood Unit in Guelph, and Village of Riverside Glen Williamsford Retirement Home in Guelph.

Across the Wellington Dufferin Guelph region, a total of seven new cases were added Tuesday, and 168 active cases were reported. There are four elementary school outbreaks, all in Guelph, and eight workplace outbreaks across the health unit jurisdiction.
